The Chico Running Club (CRC) was founded in August, 1975 by a group of nine dedicated runners. We have about 145 members, including runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. The CRC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to keeping the sports of running and walking alive.
While you need not be a member of the Chico Running Club to join us on our runs or participate in our events, membership does have its benefits. In addition to supporting local scholastic running programs and nonprofits such as the Torres Shelter and C.A.R.D
Individual memberships are a low $25 per year, and family memberships are just $30 per year.
Our flagship event for over thirty years, the Bidwell Classic has showcased the beauty of Lower Bidwell Park in early spring. The first Saturday in March brings a half marathon, a half marathon relay, and a 5K.
Like the Bidwell Classic, this 10K/5K is well into its fourth decade. The first Sunday of each November gives runners and walkers the opportunity for a quick loop or half-loop around Lower Park. Despite the onset of real weather in Chico, we almost always get a break and have cool, dry conditions for the Almond Bowl.
Each July Fourth, CRC teams up with the Chico Area Recreation District (C.A.R.D.) to bring you a fun, low-key 5K in Lower Bidwell Park. We start early to beat the heat, and then send you from the finish line over to the picnic benches for a pancake breakfast.
Our newest race and one of the few local trail races, there's no mincing words aobut the Hooker Oak Trail Half Marathon: it's tough. 13.1 miles of mostly rolling, technical terrain with no short option come race day. The course highlights two fantastic Upper Park trails: Middle Trail and Yahi Trail. If you can't be bothered to run on pavement, the HOT is your race.
CRC's Saturday morning runs start at 8:00 a.m. from Dec. 12 on. We meet in the parking lot on the north side of One Mile.
Tuesday evenings are Ladies' Nights with varying start times and routes.
If you are interested, just show up, or feel free to e-mail us for more info. Particularly for the Ladies' Night runs as the times and routes change.
